The Christian Right in the United States is becoming increasingly synonymous with Nazi sympathizers. I don't know how else to put it.
This past weekend, Bryce Mitchell, UFC fighter Bryce Mitchell went viral for all the wrong reasons when a video clip surfaced of him on a podcast stating that based on his "own research" (we're talking about a flat earther here may I mention) that Hitler was a "good guy" and that "He fought for his country. He wanted to purify it by kicking the greedy Jews out that were destroying his country and turning them all into gays.” Needless to say, he drew the wrath of anyone who isn't a Nazi sympathizer like him, including UFC president Dana White who lambasted him but conceded that free speech rights prevented the UFC from taking any action against him. Mitchell would make a public statement and offer an apology for his comments, which was about as empty as my bank account after Christmas. Unsurprisingly, he obtained many followers on X due to his comments. Honestly, I don't know what's worse: his comments praising Hitler or the thousands of comments I read agreeing with him. I also have to say I am glad that the UFC didn't punish him because he would have been a martyr in the eyes of the Christian right.
This is just another example of prominent Christian nationalists who vocalize their appreciation for Hitler. In all reality, if Bryce Mitchell and the many other White Christian nationalists in the media were to disappear, they would be yesterday's news because they are simply mouthpuppets for the larger interest groups in the United States pushing for a White Christian nationalist agenda. The Council for National Policy is funding groups like The Heritage Foundation, Turning Point USA, Focus on the Family, The Family Research Council, etc. The groups that are doing everything in their power to demonize anything that isn't White, cisgender, and straight. Also, Moms for Liberty is deliberately sabotaging school boards in the name of White Christian nationlism. These are incredibly well-funded groups, are intimately connected to the White House, and would see to it that abortion would be banned in all instances, would censor any mention of systemic racism in public schools, and I believe would eradicate LGBTQ+ people if they had the ability.
This is why the anti-trans agenda presently cannot be overlooked. I have said it before, and I will say it again: it is a textbook example of right-wing authoritarianism that characterized the holocaust. A group of people that has not done a single thing to anyone, yet the Christian right is vilifying them based on their personal beliefs that they are a threat to society. This is why I urge people, even if you have no stake in the attack on trans people, to speak out against disinformation and more importantly hypocrisy within the Christian right.
